Sovereign's claims process

  • STEP 1: Report

    Report your claim to your broker

    We encourage you to contact your broker, so they can help you report your claim and protect your business from further loss.

    If you experience a loss, here are some steps to take:

    • Take reasonable measures to protect your property from further damage
    • If needed, report the incident to the authorities (e.g. Police, Fire, Ministry of Environment, etc.)
    • Document the details of your loss and be sure to include date, time, location, contact information, witness testimonial, etc.
    • If relevant, take photos and/or video to help explain the circumstances

    And if you need extra help, contact us directly and we can get someone out quickly to assist.

  • STEP 2: Review

    The review of your claim begins

    Once your claim has been reported, a Claims Examiner will be dedicated to your file to deliver the exceptional claims experience that Sovereign is known for.

    Your Examiner will review your claim and carry out a full analysis of your policy to identify any potential coverages.

  • STEP 3: Evaluate

    Your claim is evaluated and responded to

    No two claims are the same, depending on your situation and type of claim your Claims Examiner will determine the appropriate next step, which may include:

    • Sending an adjuster to visit you on-site to help determine the cause of loss and available coverages
    • Enlisting experts to help with the claim review (e.g. engineers to assess structural damage, appraisers to help evaluate the loss, forensics to identify the cause of a fire, forensic accountants to calculate business interruption, etc.)

    Then, we’ll connect you with our preferred vendors, who we recommend based on their reputation, professionalism and the quality service and experience you expect from Sovereign and our partners. We trust them to help you get back to business – fast.

  • STEP 4: Settle

    Settling your claim

    Once your claim is reviewed and finalized, your Claims Examiner or Adjuster is available to walk you, and your broker, through your policy to discuss the coverage of your claim. If you’re entitled to payment under your policy, we’ll expedite payment to you.
