Important changes to your Accident Benefits
Effective your renewal, Ontario reform has changed auto insurance to give you more options and control over your accident benefits coverage.
Most mandatory coverages are becoming optional
Medical, Rehabilitation and Attendant Care benefit coverage are staying mandatory. All other previously mandatory coverages are becoming optional.
Who is covered under your policy for the nine newly optional accident benefits will change on July 1, 2026, regardless of renewal effective date. Optional accident benefits will only apply to:
• The named insured
• The spouse of the named insured
• Dependants of the named insured and of the named insured’s spouse
• Persons specified in the policy as drivers of the automobile
Get the right protection; know before you choose
While this new optionality allows for more flexibility, the coverages provide important protection at a nominal cost. Compare other benefit plan coverages first to make informed decisions that meet the needs of all insured individuals.
If you want to keep your existing coverage, no action is required. Your policy will automatically renew with your current coverage and limits. We will not remove coverages unless requested by the policyholder.
