Terry McGrath

VP, Commercial Solutions

Terry McGrath is the VP Commercial Solutions at Sovereign Insurance. As part of Sovereign’s executive team, Terry is responsible for growing market share within Sovereign’s chosen sectors and on strengthening partnerships with brokers and clients, for Sovereign’s Commercial P&C, Auto, and National Resource Practice portfolios.

Terry began his career with Hannover Re and was responsible for overseeing new acquisitions as well as auditing the performance of various lines of business. He joined AON in 2011 within a business development capacity and was successful in significantly growing the book. In 2013 he transitioned over to Northbridge where he progressively grew in the Underwriting and Business Development areas. He progressed to the role of Underwriting Manager at Northbridge, leading a team of underwriters with a focus on large construction, manufacturing, health & education and consumer business.

Terry joined Sovereign in 2020 as the AVP, Commercial Solutions (Western Region), bringing experience in underwriting, business development, MGA business, and reinsurance. In four short years in the role, Terry helped attract new talent to Sovereign, expanding the organization’s expertise in key industry verticals. He guided his team to drive profitable growth by supporting strong connections between underwriting teams and key distribution partners.

Throughout his career, Terry has been passionate about building deep and meaningful relationships with partners and believes that consistency and integrity are key in creating a powerful partnership with our stakeholders. He enjoys a challenge and coming up with unique solutions that create equitable, win-win relationships with our brokers and clients. Essentially, his philosophy is that we all achieve more by working together.

Terry has a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics from the University of South Africa. In his downtime, he likes to spend time with his family in the outdoors. He recently hiked Sulfur Mountain with his daughters and is looking forward to a good ski season this year. You will often find him volunteering for his daughter's skiing club or on the field playing Cricket, as the Captain of the Glenmore Taverners team.
